About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

Welcome to One-Day Choir!

My name is Mckye and together with Good + Plenty Arts Collective we'd love you to join our choir for the night. This is an extra-special choir because it's PRIDE MONTH and we're at the WECC! This will hopefully be our biggest choir yet, all ages are welcome, please tell your friends, your family, your dog, your mailman, EVERYONE xo

We're going to be learning "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield, arranged by Matt Goldstein from Gaia Music Collective.

Be ready to be silly, to sob (if you want), to create and have all the fun. No audition, no judgement - we just want to sing together in harmony. You in?

Sign-up now and receive your sheet music and harmonies in your confirmation email

What's a One-Day Choir?

For one evening we build a choir, learn a song and sing in harmony together! Whether you're a choir veteran, feel like you "can't sing", have never sung in a group before or you're an ex theatre-kid (guilty): all are welcome and we want you to join us. This is our fifth ODC and we'll be meeting at The West End Cultural Centre.

Order of Events:

  • Warmup and silliness to get everyone ready to sing
  • Break down the song and parts section by section
  • short break
  • Go through the emotions and lyrics throughout the song
  • Add some dynamics and "YEAH OK THAT SOUNDS AMAZING" moments
  • Sing and record some video for us to have for ourselves and to share

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to learn the music before hand?

Sheet music and vocal recordings of each part are in your confirmation email. These resources will be optional to learn before hand but it's awesome if you give it a listen. The intention is joy not perfection! We leave this up to you if you want to learn the song before the choir or not.

Why is it by donation?

It is of the utmost importance to us that these events are affordable and accessible - we never want money to be a barrier to making music together. If the ticket scale is financially prohibitive to you, feel free to donate outside of the scale at whatever amount works for you.

Who can come?

All ages, races, genders, sexual orientations, classes, religions, abilities, national origins, languages and musical experiences are welcome. We ask that you bring an open mind and a willingness to leave judgment of self & others at the door. Let's treat each other with love, respect and kindness.

Are there drinks? parking? is it accessible?

Yes, yes and yes. There will be short breaks and times when you're not learning your parts and can mingle. Street parking is available and there are drinks for purchase at the WECC. There is a wheelchair ramp and we will have masks available if you require/prefer a mask.

Which part should I learn?

You can learn any part you feel called to sing. Some are identical to each other besides a few bars (alto one and alto two for example). If you don't know which part to pick, no problem! I can help you decide on the night.
